Take 2

It's the holiday season again! Niya and I decided to return to Serendipity to keep up our (1-year old) tradition. The wait for seating was about 2 hours so we crossed streetss to Bloomingdales. We treated ourselves to a pistachio cupcake at the in-store Magnolia's and fell in love with a few kate spade winter accessories.
At Serendipity we ordered the Julia's chicken salad and for dessert, the apple pie which had toasted walnuts baked into the top crust.
P.S. The man who helped with our ordering was the sweetest ever. He runs the show there.
P.P.S I've got my winter fringe cut. I think its becoming a seasonal thing.

a feast with family

Being home with family for Thanksgiving is one of those things that I don't think I can ever get tired of. We played a bit of pool and watched the James Bond marathon on tv before dinner. There was plenty of good food, especially dessert (7 different kinds of ice cream!). I most definitely gained weight. But it was probably worth it. Also, my sweet aunt bought me a recipe book for macarons (macaroons?) I will definitely have to try a few of them soon!

[AW80D] Day 52: Gateway Asia

Republic
37 Union Sq W (between S Park Ave & 17th St)
I was not really sure how to categorize this restaurant. The food is asian fusion (both curry dishes and sashimi are on the menu) although it leaned toward a thai influence. We ordered fried wontons and crispy tofu as appetizers. For our main course we had two orders of spicy duck. This was rice vermicelli, shredded duck, bean sprouts and cilantro all in a curry and coconut milk broth. There was nothing significantly special about the food, which was kind of expected from "asian fusion". Nonetheless it worked for the four of us, especially since we had been walking around the holiday market in the cold drizzle for at least an hour. We came while there were few people and the music wasn't blasting in the restaurant which was nice because I have heard it can get pretty loud. Although good for a casual meal with friends, I have definitely had better around the area.
*The last photo is just a shot of my friend Jason's cool vintage superman watch. It used to be his dad's.
